Common Wire Nail in Philippines

What is a Common Wire Nail?

As its name suggests, the common wire nail is crafted from a coil of wire and comes in varying lengths and diameters to suit specific purposes. It is typically made of carbon steel and features a flat round head and a diamond point. Larger nails are referred to as spikes.

The common wire nail is quite versatile and can be used in almost every application in which a fastening is necessary, including:

  • medium to heavy carpentry - It is designed specifically for house framing where strength and durability are the priority.
  • household projects - It can be used to furnish or decorate the home, from putting up picture frames to securing hardwood floors.
  • general construction processes - It is suitable for any instance that needs a fastening.

There are many differences between a cut nail and a common wire nail, from the material to the purpose. Whereas cut nails are made by shearing steel plates, wire nails are made by drawing coils of wire through multiple dies. Cut nails also have a wedge-shaped body with a four-sided blunt tip, while wire nails have a uniform diameter and only tapers to a sharp tip at the every end. Cut nails are longer than wire nails, and can be used to fasten other materials like wood to bricks.

Common wire nails are named as such because they are made by drawing coils of wire through a series of dies until the preferred length, diameter and tip is formed.

What are the advantages of Common Wire Nail?

From house construction and decoration to other industrial applications, the common wire nail offers several advantages, including:

  • Versatility - With its different proportions, this type of nail can be used for numerous applications, specifically in commercial, industrial and residential settings. It can also be used to secure wood, cloth, plastic and other similar materials.
  • Durability - The common wire nail is known for being tough, long-lasting and rust-resistant, often the choice for joinery and framing work.
  • Affordability & availability - These nails are available at a very low cos and can be bought in general and hardware stores.
